Made from Irish whiskey and a cream-based liqueur, the Baileys Irish Cream was first made by Andrew Bailey of the R.A. Bailey & Co. in Dublin, Ireland. The drink has an alcohol content of 17 percent.

Baileys Irish Cream is deemed "the original" because Andrew Bailey was the first to figure out how to combine cream and alcohol so the combination stayed stable during commercial distribution.

Other Popular Whiskey Liqueurs

Baileys Chocolatini Ingredients

1 oz. Baileys Irish Cream
1 oz. vodka
½ oz. chocolate liqueur.

Directions

Drop ice cubes into shaker. Pour in the liquors, shake and strain into chilled martini glasses. Garnish with chocolate shakings or sprinkle cocoa powder on top.

Rhett Butler Cocktail

Ingredient

1 ½ oz. Southern Comfort
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
¼ oz. fresh lime juice
¼ oz. orange Curacao
sugar to taste (optional).

Directions

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake and strain into stemmed, chilled glassware.

Rusty Nail

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. Scotch whiskey
½ oz. Drambuie whiskey
1 twist lemon peel.

Directions

Pour the Scotch and Drambuie into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice cubes. Stir well. Garnish with a lemon peel twist.
